Birmingham born, award-winning architect, Ken Shuttleworth was chosen to create a truly outstanding building to marry the city’s industrial heritage with a vision of the future. Taking inspiration from Birmingham’s jewellery making tradition, he has designed what he describes as ‘an enchanting jewellery box’ rich with light and precious metal tones. The Cube’s unique style of intricate gold and bronze geometric shapes cover the exterior and glisten across the city. With Ken's involvement in previous schemes including London's 30 St Mary Axe building, commonly known as 'The Gherkin' and Hong Kong's Chek Lap Kok airport, The Cube makes another striking addition to a world class portfolio.
Inside the building’s central courtyard atrium area is an exclusive portfolio of art pieces by contemporary artist, Temper. Commissioned to create a series of art installations, Temper showcases his first works in sculpture at The Cube. Dedicated to and influenced by ‘The Lovely People’ of the city he loves, each of Temper’s pieces immortalises a real person who has inspired others and demonstrates a source of pride for the city. Known for his street art, Temper boasts Saatchi and Saatchi, Roman Abramovich and Coca Cola amongst his clients.
