In his youth, he played tennis for the county and once played football as goalkeeper for the Manchester University first team until the captain decided that he couldn't even catch a cold!
Andrew Kay was educated at Solihull School and studied law at Manchester University (1979 - 1982,) where he was awarded the International Law prize, and Chester Law College (1982 - 1983) before joining Blakemores Solicitors in 1983.
